That was crazy! I’ve never been so surprised before.

10

u/marcopolo22 Jul 31 '24

Me too, she killed it! Equal parts fun and hilarious.

2

u/Katocorp Aug 01 '24

Good God!

2

u/metkja Aug 01 '24

I was there too! She was incredible

191

u/wendyschickennugget Jul 31 '24

Damn, so Lorne pushed back production on an entire TV series (Loot) just so he could have Maya for election season.

101

u/Woolf01 Jul 31 '24

That honestly seems like a no brainer decision. Maya plays Kamala Harris, and every week there’s a new clip of her circling the internet for most of the week from the last SNL. Think of how often we saw Baldwin and his Trump impression.

22

u/Foxy02016YT Aug 01 '24

Oh my god Baldwin and Rudolph debate sketch…

40

u/LongmontStrangla Aug 01 '24

James Austin Johnson is much better.

7

u/Foxy02016YT Aug 01 '24

Yes but imagine how much more expensive this version would be

12

u/JFZX Aug 01 '24

Baldwin back on TV is a longshot.

4

u/Foxy02016YT Aug 01 '24

Still wondering if he’ll appear in BeetleTwoce, like it wasn’t announced but I imagine we’ll at least hear about what happened to them

65

u/zorandzam Jul 31 '24

I'm pretty sure Loot is produced by Lorne's Broadway Video company, too, so he and Maya both had a say here.

66

u/1Mudkip88 Jul 31 '24

Love this for Maya

5

u/DK_Sizzle Aug 01 '24

Yeah, after they told the whole crew the show was back on and a bunch of people turned down other work to go back to Loot.

11

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

I hope she's getting compensated in proportion to what she'd make filming that show!

20

u/ruggedlife_80 Jul 31 '24

The crew on Loot sure isn’t. They all just got fired.

7

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

Yes, I saw you post that. Why didn't Lorne just pay their salaries during the delay?

13

u/ruggedlife_80 Jul 31 '24

We’re Below The Line crew. We don’t matter in the grand scheme of business. We’re easily replaceable.

8

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

:-( I'm sorry. You'd think 50, 60 years in the business, a producer would care enough about the people who make up his crew to make sure they're all right and salaried when he decides to up and change course?

13

u/ruggedlife_80 Jul 31 '24

It’s an awful business unless you’re at the top. It’s the last straw and I’m working on leaving.

5

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

Well, if there's something you think I can help you with, right now, please let me know. :-( I don't have much, but I'm happy to try anything. You and the whole rest of the crew.

9

u/ruggedlife_80 Jul 31 '24

Feel free to share what they’ve done online. Best way to help is to get people talking about it.

4

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

I'll do that. <3 My best, to you all.

Damn I’m sorry to hear that. That was honestly my first thought when I saw that detail in the story which everyone seems to be glossing over.

If Kamala wins, they need to hire someone new to play her like when they hired James Austin Johnson.

418

u/Zombie_John_Strachan Jul 31 '24

JAJ could probably do a decent Harris

143

u/bso45 Jul 31 '24

Fred armisen

31

u/astrosdude91 Jul 31 '24

I'm surprise more people don't complain about him doing Obama as basically being blackface.

72

u/bso45 Jul 31 '24

lol plenty of people complain if you spend some time on this sub

17

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

Bill loves Fred. We love Bill. So, transitive property, we love Fred.

4

u/PhthaloVonLangborste Aug 01 '24

I love Fred. He plays drums

5

u/Greene_Mr Aug 01 '24

He plays knick-knacks on your thumbs.

4

u/astrosdude91 Jul 31 '24

I suppose that's true. I guess I just haven't noticed it as much as I should have.

37

u/mcclaneberg Jul 31 '24

Is it really black face though? I always got he was doing an Obama impression, not an impression or caricature of black people. The make up was simply costume to match Obama’s natural skin tone.

But I don’t want to be insensitive.

28

u/bso45 Jul 31 '24

It’s not really, but it’s still pretty cringe looking back. The issue wasn’t necessarily the impression it was the fact that SNL simply did not have a black male cast member on the roster that could even do it in a pinch.

6

u/No-Appearance-9113 Jul 31 '24

Jay Pharaoh?

17

u/RellenD Jul 31 '24

Which is what brought Jay into the show

→ More replies (0)

2

u/LongmontStrangla Aug 01 '24

That's probably what led to his casting. Fred played Obama in 2009.

3

u/Square-Set7031 Jul 31 '24

Kenan?

4

u/bso45 Jul 31 '24

He’s never done Obama. I don’t think he’s really an impressions guy

→ More replies (0)

19

u/astrosdude91 Jul 31 '24

Idk, I guess it's not like black face paint and big white gloves minstrel show blackface. But it still feels iffy to me. For what it's worth, by all accounts, Fred Armisen was always really uncomfortable with the portrayal

9

u/bilboafromboston Jul 31 '24

Lorne has always been pretty " soft " racist and misogynistic. The first cast was supposed to just be fill in so it was pretty much a Chevy Chase cast. 3 men, 3 women and he added Garrett Morris. And included Morris in skits. For the next 25- 30 years he pretty much pushed aside women. Until Tina Fey. He only added more minorities after the cast threatened a strike. Melissa V was only on because he told insiders he couldn't find any funny non white women in NYC. They responded with her. She had been on TV already many times.

2

u/Greene_Mr Aug 01 '24

..."insiders"?

16

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '24

He's Venezuelan and Korean, so it's alot different than if he was just a white guy doing it. His skin tone was already fairly dark anyways so they weren't painting his face either.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/StrobeLightRomance Aug 01 '24

basically being blackface.

Did I miss something where Obama said he had an issue with Armisen's impersonation, or are you choosing to be offended on the behalf of a grown man who literally ran the country for 8 years and can speak for himself?

23

u/RodwellBurgen Jul 31 '24

Obama is half-black. Him playing Obama was exactly as inaccurate as Jay Pharaoh playing him.

9

u/AshgarPN Jul 31 '24

I complained. Jay Pharaoh was right there.

9

u/RellenD Jul 31 '24

Pharaoh joined in 2010 and did play Obama

Oh come on they at least have to try lmao. Would instantly become a top episode

57

u/justhereforthebags Hangin’ Like My Nuts Jul 31 '24

They don’t need to hire anyone. They have Ego. And she would be fantastic.

29

u/crosis52 Jul 31 '24

Ego’s about to start her 7th season, while its been more common to stay longer than 7 years, it’s probably a safer bet to get someone new

10

u/lonelyinbama Jul 31 '24

Yeah that would be the only reason not to pick her and honestly not a bad one. If you wanna try and find someone to do 4 years then you gotta look fresh. I doubt Ego is here in 4 years.

But again, changing who does the President mid term is nothing new so i wouldn’t complain about Ego getting the gig. Id like for them to give an honest effort and finding someone new though

2

u/WillBennett6924 Aug 01 '24

Yeah! In fact, the only reason it's common to stay on longer than 7 years, is because of COVID! It's been said that a majority would've left after season 45 had COVID not happened.

Similarly, I see several vets exiting the show after season 50.

69

u/pinqe Jul 31 '24

I mean they’re both women of color but Ego looks absolutely nothing like Kamala imo. It would come off kind of tone deaf lol

42

u/James_2584 Jul 31 '24

To paraphrase what someone on this sub said:

Chevy looked nothing like Ford

Aykroyd looked nothing like Carter

Hartman looked nothing like Reagan

Carvey looked nothing like Bush

Ferrell looked nothing like Bush Jr.

Sudeikis looked nothing like Biden

As long as the writing and performances are funny, that should be all that matters.

20

u/Flomo420 Jul 31 '24

and even makeup/prosthetics

no as though JAJ naturally looks like trump lol

10

u/shewy92 Jul 31 '24

Also Melissa McCarthy didn't look like Sean Spicer. She was a heavyset woman with long hair playing a short haired average sized guy

6

u/PuffyTacoSupremacist Aug 01 '24

Honestly, you could argue it's better when they don't look like them, cause it gives them more characterization to play with. Ferrell's Bush was iconic, but it was barely an impression as much as an entirely new character that referenced Bush. Same with Hartman's Clinton.

The only time an exact lookalike has worked super well was Tina Fey's Palin, but that was such a specific person (who barely needed any extra writing to become a parody) at a specific moment in time.

11

u/Redeem123 Jul 31 '24

It’s not like Maya looks particularly like her. Nor do any of the other presidential impersonators before getting in makeup. Why is it any more tone deaf for Ego?

24

u/UsernameStolenbyyou Jul 31 '24

Really? I think Maya and her look like sisters

4

u/Greene_Mr Aug 01 '24

Which is funny, because Kamala actually has a sister named Maya! :-D

3

u/UsernameStolenbyyou Aug 01 '24

That's hilarious 😂

3

u/dkphxcyke Aug 01 '24

There's definitely double take quality resemblencing goin on with those two.

4

u/Thin_Crow_2729 Jul 31 '24

100% agree!! She is fantastic and while I adore Maya, I really wish they would’ve utilized Ego for this!

11

u/pussibilities Jul 31 '24

Get Allison Reese!

7

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

She already auditioned and they passed on her.

12

u/JanePizza What a colour! Jul 31 '24

I wasn’t crazy about her impression but plenty of people audition multiple times before they’re hired.

9

u/Redeem123 Jul 31 '24

She wouldn’t be the first person to need two auditions.

This was a bit of a no-brainer. Maya absolutely destroys when she’s back on the show. Her “I’m Your Mother” monologue was an all-time great and her Beyonce on the Hot Wings parody had me literally crying laughing. She’s going to kill it. Kamala/Buttigieg 2024! #whitedudeslikecolinjostforharris

This business decision fucked over hundreds of crew members who were working on Season 3 of her show Loot. We were suddenly told on a Friday that work had been disbanded to be resumed at a later date, which looks to be January 2O25 now. Many of us have been out of work for 15 months to 2 years because of strikes and industry cutbacks. It’s really a horrible thing to do to promise a job and give crew start dates for filming and then rip it away. I won’t be watching.

26

u/--fieldnotes-- Jul 31 '24

Yeah I was wondering about that, it's one thing for Lorne and Maya to push production back but that's a whole lotta jobs left in limbo. Sorry to hear, that's super rough on everyone.

17

u/theodo Jul 31 '24

I honestly don't even get why they have to completely delay production due to this. Maya won't be writing on the show, and will be in likely one sketch per night, also likely to be the cold open. It's not an all week job like she's a regular cast member or writer, it's a one night a week gig for her. Maybe scale the production back a bit or something but to delay the entire season is crazy.

8

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

They shoot on opposite coasts. It's not feasible to fly back and forth twice a week, every week, for 6+ weeks.

And back in 2020, they absolutely used her in other sketches. "But I'm Aunt Jemima!"

7

u/Pyro636 Jul 31 '24

It's not feasible to fly back and forth twice a week, every week, for 6+ weeks.

Maybe I'm too unfamiliar with the industry, but I feel like this isn't too uncommon these days tho? Didn't someone create the word 'bicoastal' to describe people who were adopting exactly this type of lifestyle? Sure it would be taxing but temporary. I dunno, I just feel like if I were rich and famous I'd at least consider it in order to not fuck over a bunch of poors.

5

u/kittens_on_a_rainbow Jul 31 '24

She also has 4 kids. I could see not wanting to never see her kids for 6+ weeks.

5

u/Greful Jul 31 '24

So she’s still going to be flying back and forth then

u/pinklavalamp Aug 01 '24

I had no idea about this. Thank you for the perspective, and I’m very sorry you’re having to deal with this (and other crew members). Do they expect you all to sit there and wait, or are you given leave to find a new project?

3

u/ruggedlife_80 Aug 01 '24

We don’t have to wait, but there are so few jobs in Los Angeles right now, I doubt many of us will find one.

254

u/ShivalryChmivalry Jul 31 '24

Maya is amazing as Kamala, but it’s continually frustrating to see celebrities/former cast members being brought in for the “big” roles. There is a huge, talented cast that should be utilized, regardless of the celebrity being parodied.

118

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

JAJ is playing Trump this time, so we're already ahead of the 2020 season. And I doubt either VP will be stunt cast this time.

Vance will probably be Bowen, and TBD White Man will probably be Mikey (or maybe Molly if he's bald).

66

u/bjau75 Jul 31 '24

Interesting that you don't think Molly would be Vance.

83

u/not_productive1 Jul 31 '24

Molly would be an amazing Vance. And OH MY GOD would it piss them off so much.

43

u/nuts_and_crunchies Jul 31 '24 edited Jul 31 '24

Molly's also NB and from Ohio so this seems like a perfect fit for them to get under his skin.

18

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

Molly's the Eternal General of the State of Ohio!

6

u/JenniferKinney Jul 31 '24

God this sketch was so good 😂 And they could probably even repurpose Molly's wig from it for Vance!

I could see Marcello or Longfellow playing Vance.

I want Bowen available to play the couch 😂

77

Bowen as the couch would be a GREAT Weekend Update guest!

55

u/WorstPhD Jul 31 '24

And what? Just because I'm a COUCH, you assume I'm a bottom! Have you SEEN me on the top of a car?

6

u/AttitudeAndEffort2 Jul 31 '24

I heard this comment in Bowens voice 😂

2

u/Square-Set7031 Jul 31 '24

Read this in Marcello’s voice.

3

u/RadarSmith Jul 31 '24

You just know that Bowen's wearing a couch costume on weekend update.

3

u/Greene_Mr Jul 31 '24

Molly as Vance.

15

u/Sleeze_ Jul 31 '24

I think Mikey would be a better Vance tbh. Bowen is too high-energy, and Vance is a very low-energy, lame dork.

→ More replies (3)

30

u/top6 Jul 31 '24

I agree with all this. I think the success of Tina Fey's Palin kind of broke this part of the show. They seem to be chasing that high -- with mixed success -- but that was a one-off, perfect situation for her.

If they operated like this years ago we never would have got Dana's or Will's George Bushes. Or Dana's Perot. Or Amy's Hilary. Etc.

17

u/FrostyD7 Jul 31 '24

Even without Tina Fey's precedent, I'm hearing lots of excitement online about seeing Maya return as Kamala. It's something we already saw and liked... so it'll drive ratings better than someone new.

5

u/top6 Jul 31 '24

Well Maya could be signed on to read the phone book for 15 minutes per episode and I would watch because she is the best.

But I guess my issue is that it stops new cast members from developing their own, unique takes on characters, and makes it really hard when/if the famous person leaves and someone has to play the President in their place.

I do agree this is a unique case and she will be amazing but they have done this same thing for so many candidates the last several years. It's really not a huge deal and maybe it's actually a good thing to separate most of the cast from our toxic political environment these days. (It may well be that young cast member trying to make a name for themselves don't want to be the President since it inevitably has the potential to make half the country mad.)

4

u/JenniferKinney Jul 31 '24

My hope is that Maya playing Kamala just for the election cycle (if the headline is to be believed), which was already shortened by Biden stepping down, gives another cast member time to practice & polish their impression and then step in if Kamala wins. *knocks on wood til my knuckles bleed*

2

u/FrostyD7 Jul 31 '24

I think your concerns are warranted. A case could be made that this has already wreaked havoc on their success. I don't envy the people making the decision. It's hard to choose something you know will hurt you in the short term in hopes that it keeps you on a better path long term. Hard sell to the bean counters.

2

u/Redeem123 Jul 31 '24

I mean they did this with Baldwin and we’re still getting JAJ’s Trump.

Plus is there really more value in a hypothetical Ego’s Kamala than there is in Maya’s Kamala?

28

u/Hour_Landscape_286 Jul 31 '24

it could be that Lorne auditioned the current cast who were interested and only then went with Maya. we don't know.

13

u/ShivalryChmivalry Jul 31 '24

I guess I would assume they did that. My point is the characters should be played by current cast members.

9

u/Hour_Landscape_286 Jul 31 '24

Lorne seems to go with the best player he can get. i can't disagree with that strategy. SNLs cast from the late 00s was legendary.

2

u/kevlarbaboon Jul 31 '24

I mean Alex Baldwin was far from the best player they had but OK.

RIP cast members screen time.

Always hated the stunt casting, seems people here always flip flop on it.

6

u/statleader13 Jul 31 '24

Yeah, as funny as Maya is I do kind of wish they had given the current cast a chance to shine.

11

u/HappyInstruction3678 Jul 31 '24

As much as people here don't want to admit it, SNL cast isn't really a draw anymore. If Lorne is doing something repeatedly, it's because it gets him more viewership. People will now tune in wondering "Which celebrity will pop up this week?"

I don't agree with it, but I at least understand why.

12

u/Curryfor30 Jul 31 '24

I mean, part of the reason the SNL cast isn’t a draw is because they’re edged out of big sketches by guest performers and alumni episodes where there’s sketches that are almost completely guest performers.

People love iconic political impressions like Ferrell as Bush jr, Carvey as Bush sr, but those never would have happened if Lorne went “we got just the guy to drive up ratings, let’s bring in (stunt casting) to play the president! People will love it!”.

Conversely they could have hired a new cast member to play Kamala, thus fostering new undeveloped talent and introducing them to a wider audience (y’know, kinda the purpose of the whole show?).

Also, as much as I love Maya as a person….her Kamala is not good. It’s basically the same as her Beyoncé, or her Whitney Houston, in that it’s more about Maya goofing around then any attempt at a real impression. And they all sound prettymuch the same.

7

u/HappyInstruction3678 Jul 31 '24

SNL isn't nearly the draw it used to be. SNL's last big star was Kate, and she's gone. Maya's a bigger star than Ego, Bowen or whoever else on the show. Lorne wants ratings, and promoting Maya will get people to tune in.

Again, it's against what made the show great in the first place, but Lorne does not care who's on-screen as long as it gets more eye balls.

9

u/Curryfor30 Jul 31 '24

Yes, and Maya was an absolute no name when she was hired and featured on the show.  Kate was also largely unknown.

And if that’s really the prevailing sentiment, just say fuck it and fire the whole cast, just make it a variety show featuring Lornes friends.

Her bit for her is to be “isn’t it kooky how cool I am?” Which I hope they go in a different direction because it doesn’t have legs.

11

u/FrostyD7 Jul 31 '24

They don't tend to scratch beyond surface level characteristics for VP's. Because they have less appearances on the show and viewers know less about them. Kamala's bits will have to get more complex and current if they are going to send her out every Saturday.

They overdid Baldwin Trump because it triggered the real Bencheeto Mussolweenie. I would hedge a guess that Harris is not similarly triggered by Maya’s impression

33

u/aesoth Jul 31 '24

It is rare to see a politician get ticked off by the impressions, most know it will happen. Bush Sr, both Clinton's, Bernie, Bachmann, Whitmer, are some examples that loved their impressions.

Trump, Palin, Boebert, pretty much all MAGA GOP and some Tea Party GOP hated their impressions. It's funny how the group that are quickest to call others "snowflake" have the thinnest skins.

I recall Bush Sr did a get out the vote PSA where he said "when you vote for President, you're not just electing the leader of the free world. You're also giving a job to some jerk comedian who will initiate him on SNL." All in good fun of course.

Even if that were true, why should the focus of a comedy show be to piss people off? Like, sure, fuck Trump and his ilk but the focus should always be on making it funny. If it pisses them off, that's an added bonus.

The whole Trumpwin era was some of the laziest, most hollow, and toothless political satire the show ever had. Baldwin progressively half-assed his impression more and more, the stunt casting got progressively more out of control and nonsensical, and the comedic conceit often amounted to "We're pieces of shit and we're aware of it". That's not funny. That's just clapter.

The reason something like Reagan Mastermind or Clinton at McDonald's worked so well was because they both poked fun at the left and right's perception of the political figure, and they had a unique, simple, and fun comedic premise to go along with it.

Nah, she'll come on and meet her at some point.

Bencheeto Mussolweenie

Every day I see a new name for Trump ... and I fucking love it.

Someone needs to catalog all these names on a website or some shit.

Maya is great, but why not have Ego in the role? This could be her final or one of her final seasons and she certainly deserves a would-be president role to be one of her final signature parts on the show.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think she really does a good Kamala…she just kinda looks like her

11

u/solarplexus7 Jul 31 '24

She doesn't even look like her. Or Michelle Obama. She was just the only black female cast member for a long time.

2

u/Additional-Smoke3500 Aug 01 '24

Lol didn't Keenan say he wasn't doing anymore impressions of black women until they hired ACTUAL black women?

6

u/unibrowcow Jul 31 '24

I like Maya and all, just not for this.

Unpopular option:

I hate her take on Harris just as much as I hated Baldwin’s Trump.

25

u/ech-o Jul 31 '24

I cannot differentiate between her takes on Beyoncé and Harris.

14

u/Bingerfangs Jul 31 '24

Her take on pretty much everything is the same.

8

u/VeryLowIQIndividual Jul 31 '24

Exactly, the sassy, cool, black aunt thing we’ve seen 1000 times.

6

u/solarplexus7 Jul 31 '24

She's awful. It's just "what if Maya Rudolf in Kamala clothes"

7

u/carving5106 Jul 31 '24

Unpopular and correct. Her Harris is just another "Maya as Maya".

42

u/Buck_Slamchest Jul 31 '24

It’s the right choice. I’d have love to have seen Ego given a chance but it had to be Maya.

30

u/Ariesthebigram Jul 31 '24

And it sounds like this is only a limited time (possibly final) run of Maya as Kamala. Even the article states that they are postponing production of Loot Season 3 for Apple TV+ until the winter so Maya can do this.

9

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

I figured they would if they needed to, since Maya's a producer on that show and has pull.

Am I the only one who feels SNL is overdoing political humor stuff ever since Trump.

I felt like it was quite limited before. Then it's every episode...which is just a bit much.

4

u/solarplexus7 Jul 31 '24

After the Cold Open the political sketches are pretty rare. But they're still chasing the Tina Fey Palin high.

4

u/BigDummmmy Jul 31 '24

It's been this way since at least the mid 90s.

7

u/kompletist Jul 31 '24

Chevy Chase rose to stardom playing Gerald Ford in the first season.

3

u/erics75218 Jul 31 '24

I remember the president stuff...but they are all the way down to the entire cast having 15 minute skits playing people most people don't even know exist.

Or no?

Why does anything need to be delayed? It would take two days to practice and shoot the 10 minute sketch. Heck they could do it all in one day. Give her the script to learn and everyone else can practice the skit with a stand in.

The more important question is who's going to play the vice weirdo? Even though it's a long shot, I'm hoping Haley Joel Osment.

u/hikingdyke Jul 31 '24 edited Jul 31 '24

The moment I saw people clamoring for Harris to do Hot Ones I knew Rudolph was going to return to play Harris this season. She loves doing Hot Ones jokes faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too much (two times on SNL as Beyonce, as well as a Hot Ones scene on Loot - there may be more I am not aware of tbh) to pass up the chance to do a Kamala Harris on Hot Ones sketch. (To clarify, as tone is not conveyed well in writing, I am not knocking her love of the Hot Ones sketch medium. I welcome more of them because Rudolph is hilarious and clearly deeply enjoys playing with the humor of that scenario).

8

u/MemeLovingLoser Jul 31 '24

Why even have a cast anymore. Just pull in alumni for every recurring bit.

7

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

Hell yes. This was never really in doubt, but it's nice to get confirmation.

11

u/pac4 Jul 31 '24

Yawn

2

u/scienceofsin Jul 31 '24

I get it but I was hoping for Ego - she deserves it

2

u/Potential_Case_7680 Jul 31 '24

Keenan’s gonna be pissed

2

u/filmreddit13 Jul 31 '24

So like 2 episodes? They usually aren’t back until October, go for 2 weeks then take 2 weeks off.

2

u/malonkey1 Jul 31 '24

buckle up folks, it's gonna be a long, long month before the election

2

u/SirDrinksalot27 Jul 31 '24

Is Maya Rudolph Indian or Black??

2

u/Mister_Squirrels Jul 31 '24

I’m not mad, cause I’m not gonna be mad about Maya.

BUT. Shoulda been Ego.

2

u/Buckowski66 Jul 31 '24

people forget tt was not a flattering impersonation. It was all based on her bad debating skills and campaign falling apart after America met her.

2

u/Wyatt_O-Hellno Jul 31 '24

Does that mean Martin Short will be playing Doug?

2

u/MarvelousVanGlorious Aug 01 '24

Not even President yet and she’s already creating jobs for people.

2

u/berge7f9 Aug 01 '24

Hopefully she doesn’t end up playing Alleluia on the piano in November

2

u/kylebb Aug 01 '24

team funt!!!!!!!

2

u/5lokomotive Aug 01 '24

As someone who thinks the current cast is behind the curve I love to see when these huge reoccurring roles are taken away from them.

2

u/NarmHull Aug 01 '24

As good as she is, these roles should go to current cast members if they're a regular thing.

5

u/SaltEmergency4220 Jul 31 '24

This is just going to be fawning adoration as opposed to biting comedy. Real comedy should critique all political figures, no matter what your personal beliefs are. They’ve done some really funny Trump stuff over the years and should apply the same level of mockery (while also applying that to RFK and anyone else).

2

u/simonthedlgger Jul 31 '24

Take that Ego and Punkie !!

3

u/yanjaa Jul 31 '24

Love Maya but Sydney Duncan or Allison Reese would’ve been more interesting picks imo

5

u/bitqueso Jul 31 '24

So we have to pretend this will be funny?

5

u/solarplexus7 Jul 31 '24

Ugh. She just plays herself.

2

u/signorryan Jul 31 '24

I’m going to assume they don’t have Chappelle host the post election day episode this year

19

u/zoitberg Jul 31 '24

please god no - I'd be 100% OK with him never hosting again.

3

u/monsieurxander Jul 31 '24

They keep trotting him out hoping for a repeat of 2016, but it keeps not happening. lol

Mostly I don't like when standups take up half the show so we get fewer sketches.

Kamala Hot Ones incoming

2

u/cubansbottomdollar Aug 01 '24

Really could have been Ego or could have given a new cast member a chance to shine.
