feels like there's a r/MaliciousCompliance story on the other side of this one

u/LurkerTroll 15h ago

Or just workers fucking around

90

u/cyankitten 17h ago

And cost & label it 😂

33

u/melanthius 17h ago

Probably shipped from across the globe in the first place. I see something about Vietnam on the label

10

u/SinkPhaze 17h ago

Farmed in Vietnam

5

u/Tumble85 16h ago

Also you can't buy more than one at this price.

10

u/hedoeswhathewants 17h ago

Someone decided we weren't generating enough garbage as-is

2

u/Sorry_Error3797 6h ago

Ingredients list states "prawnS". Likely repackaged after having dodgy ones removed.

u/AmpleTomPy 5h ago

Yet I get a paper straw at Burger King. Which I've made my peace with as it is the right thing, but I am incensed at industry thinking plastic plastic plastic is acceptable at all.

An expired headless tiger prawn

121

u/Strict_Sugar6081 17h ago

Sound like an out of context rare insult

17

u/KilgoreTrout1111 16h ago

Yep. Sounds like my exgf.

3

u/BorntobeTrill 7h ago

You wish you were a headless tiger prawn but you're just an expired headless tiger prawn!

u/grafknives 19h ago

Just imagine the size of the prawn before it was reduced!

17

u/crooks4hire 16h ago

Musta been from Johannesburg

7

u/soakf 12h ago

Here for District 9 references. Not disappointed. 🦐

2

u/crooks4hire 9h ago

Only disappointment was that they didn’t release a sequel. I thought for sure that it would happen lol!

2

u/roflsst 7h ago

Fookin Prawns!

2

u/2jzSwappedSnail 11h ago

Holy, it probably was... Even bigger than this

u/stevewithcats 18h ago

Imagine being that prawn. So much life ahead of you… could have been in a curry or maybe even a cocktail.

But alas here you are reduced to clear ,,, alone ….

41

u/Saint_The_Stig 16h ago

I mean I could easily see this being a treat for someone's aquarium that normally wouldn't get something like this.

6

u/Undrwtrbsktwvr 16h ago

More desirable because your ugly-ass head is gone….

u/RedundantSwine 20h ago

Morrisons being Morrisons.

131

u/Audiosamigos8307 20h ago

Eating any more than 1 would be shellfish.

8

u/Snowstorm1603 18h ago

Hello there, Ted Mosby.

18

u/herrbz 18h ago

Morrisons is a strange place.

1

u/Shickfx 11h ago

Even stranger since it was bought by venture capitalist

15

u/transafrica 18h ago

What am I supposed to do with this?

10

u/HumourNoire 18h ago

Despair fry

6

u/KP_Wrath 17h ago

Cheap colonoscopy prep.

3

u/nothatslame 16h ago

Give it to the cat

3

u/afghamistam 15h ago

No-one knows. That's why it ended up reduced.

2

u/SmittyFromAbove 17h ago

Put a shrimp on the barby mate!

34

u/RaptorPrime 20h ago

How much could a single prawn cost? 75 cents?

10

u/PM_ME_YOUR_CUCUMBERS 18h ago

Ten dollars

3

u/Voodooni 11h ago

Always money in the banana stand

3

u/clungeknuckle 20h ago

It's more than that

1

u/EvolvingCyborg 14h ago

r/inflation would like a word.

9

u/Stunning-Astronaut72 18h ago

If depression was a picture.

8

u/Savvy_Canadian 17h ago

38 pence? 38 pence for a single prawn!?

We've fallen on hard times.

9

u/DestronCommander 21h ago

Hhhmm... Let nothing go to waste? 🤔

44

u/rosen380 19h ago

I used to work at a seafood counter. We'd never have one shrimp left-- if a customer wanted a pound and that was all that was left, plus one, we'd just add in the extra one after weighing and pricing the rest.

If I wasted the packaging to wrap a single shrimp, that likely wasn't going to sell at clearance prices anyways, my manager wouldn't have been very happy.

7

u/AtmosphereMelodic132 20h ago

Wouldn’t touch it or eat it

6

u/JackBinimbul 17h ago

The amount of plastic, effort, and general waste that went into a single prawn that no one is going to buy.

That's before the outrage of them trying to sell one prawn for 75p

6

u/kahnindustries 18h ago

Russian roulette!

5

u/triplehelix- 16h ago

my wife used to buy discount seafood items for her cat. this would have been a perfect pick up for her or someone doing the same.

1

u/abcdefghabca 14h ago

The cats happy with a single prawn? Lol

2

u/triplehelix- 11h ago

as a treat? of course.

4

u/CrudelyAnimated 15h ago

I got 45 cents and some big plans for this evening.

1

u/Justin_P_ 10h ago

Ramen booster and chill?

3

u/Dudephish 18h ago

Don't come the raw prawn with me!

3

u/JustHereForKA 16h ago

How depressing to be this creature 😞

3

u/CapoExplains 15h ago

Discount seafood is a terrifying concept.

3

u/Lebleb__ 15h ago

This makes me irrationally depressed

2

u/Ok_Television9820 18h ago

It’s reduced to just the tail.

2

u/President_Zucchini 18h ago

Poor prawn deserved better

2

u/Upset-Basil4459 17h ago

Damn that's almost half price

3

u/Yglorba 16h ago

And yet it's way more than half the prawn. What a bargain!

3

u/pomyh 16h ago

double the chance of food poisoning

2

u/33or45 17h ago

I’ve always said if you’ve got a prawn you’ve got a meal

2

u/temporalwanderer 16h ago

Shrimpflation

2

u/barcelonaKIZ 15h ago

This is weirdly unsettling to look at

2

u/fhrblig 14h ago

Serve with one noodle

2

u/victoriadagreat 13h ago

you can now have a pet prawn

2

u/rkmkthe6th 12h ago

38 is quite a bargain for an expired shrimp that someone’s taken a bite of

2

u/maxru85 10h ago

So the head is £0.37

1

u/robotseatsoup 17h ago

Perfect for secret Santa

1

u/Penguinkeith 17h ago edited 17h ago

Please, Daniel We can’t keep doing this.

1

u/MyCleverNewName 17h ago

Poor little guy.

1

u/malamalinka 17h ago

I love yellow sticker things, but I would never touch out of date uncooked seafood.

1

u/Business-Lecture2138 17h ago

Bargain! Worth it for the packaging alone

1

u/l_0v3m4ch1n3 16h ago

Shrimps is... Discount?

1

u/bodhiseppuku 16h ago

I've never seen 1 sold by itself. what a waste of packaging.

1

u/Ok-Fox1262 14h ago

Don't come the raw prawn with me mate.

1

u/dukebent 14h ago

Cat treat!

1

u/Salt_Combination7576 14h ago

It seems lonely

1

u/Royal-Bluez 14h ago

This is the kind of sht you see in Disney movies. There is a non-zero chance it gives you powers.

1

u/jazzhandpanda 13h ago

The seafood manager

1

u/Speedly 13h ago

Man, I'm sure glad they spent more money (and time) in the packaging, than it would have cost just to toss it.

Yes, we shouldn't aspire to waste food, but this is an even bigger waste, because no one is gonna buy it. We've now wasted the shrimp, the packaging, and the time of the person who did this.

1

u/BrainWav 13h ago

Ignorant American here: I've never seen shrimp available with heads. At least in a grocery store. Is head-on shrimp common enough over there that it gets specified?

1

u/CartiV 12h ago

Needed this in college.

1

u/Mikeologyy 12h ago

Hey, 50% off is a good deal

1

u/Deliriousious 11h ago

Saw a reduced squid for 20p in Morrisons the other day.

It went out of date that day, and didn’t want to risk it.

Also they were selling whole milk that went out of date that day at like 30p per 4 pint. Got tons of it and just froze it.

1

u/Impossible_Ad661 11h ago

A discount on shrinkflation seems counterintuitive

1

u/Titoy82 11h ago

Lucky you! Reduced price AND contents!

1

u/danneskjold85 11h ago

Wait a few more days and it'll be free in the dumpster.

1

u/ARobertNotABob 10h ago

Still over 7 bob.

1

u/skernstation 10h ago

WTF - humanity is fucked all that packaging for one freaking prawn that will shrink when you cook.

1

u/DomTheHun 9h ago

Morrisons goes hard

1

u/Escott1114 9h ago

It probably fell on the floor or something lol

1

u/Mogui- 9h ago

The packaging looks more expensive

1

u/Amahardguy 8h ago

Must pack a punch

1

u/Big_Hovercraft_3240 7h ago

Fell on floor I bet 🥴

1

u/dysoncube 7h ago

It's so cheap because, without a head, there's no more glory in defeating the tiger prawn

1

u/manperson111 7h ago

that’s expensive for one

1

u/RacerDelux 7h ago

You know somebody is going to buy this and then complain to the manager that they only got one shrimp.

1

u/Umpire1468 7h ago

I'm hungry, but not too hungry. I want someone to just whisper the word prawn to me.

1

u/Macrellie 3h ago

It's like a fuck you to life's face, such a waste

1

u/PoopPant73 0m ago

Smallest Prawn in the world

0

u/MetricJester 17h ago edited 12h ago

This is the sort of thing I'd pick up, carry around the store and then leave at the checkout with a hole in the wrapper and say "I changed my mind, I think something is wrong with it"

1

u/valevergaminombre 12h ago

You’re shit

1

u/MetricJester 12h ago

It's shitty that they are trying to poison someone with a lone reduced shrimp. That guy was going to go bad before it gets home no matter what I did to it.
