A slew of new technologies like radar, proximity fuses, codebreaking, long-range bombers, synthetic oil production, and penicillin helped the Allies defeat Germany. Did the Allies suddenly become geniuses, or did they have a little help from the future?

Reminds me of a post I saw a while ago which was the chatlog of a roleplay group pretending to be timetravelers. One of the members was growing increasingly exasperated at how often he needed to travel back in time to stop other time travelers from killing baby Hitler. Because no Hitler means no WWII, means no Enigma machine, means no computers, means no digital boom and the technologies that followed (which included time travel).

If it destroyed all life on earth, there would be no one left in the future to stop you. Soooooooo it could be pretty pretty pretty BAD

Yeah, the scale is pretty much „can be as bad as Hitler, or ending humankind“ Not really reassuring

Well, if the atomic bomb ignited the atmosphere, there would be no one to come back and stop you.

When I was a child I wanted to eventually invent time travel. I immediately realized I never would. Because I figured if I did I would immediately travel back to when I first had the idea to tell myself how I did it to save myself all the hard work. My pursuit of ultimate power with ultimate laziness was a total failure. Now I'm on reddit, so..... things obviously went downhill.
