Just call it a side project like Velvet Revolver or Audioslave did

Those were brand new bands that didn’t want to play the prior band’s music.

There are quite a few bands that have changed vocalists and kept the same name with continued success though. AC/DC, Van Halen black Savbath, etc

Not exactly. Velvet Revolver covered STP and GNR songs at virtually every concert they ever played. It's So Easy, Sex Type Thing, and Mr. Brownstone are in their top 10 most played songs, and Crackerman, Used to Love Her, and Vasoline crack the top 20.

Audioslave had put slightly more distance between themselves and RATM/Soundgarden, but they still played those songs live. Killing in the Name of and Black Hole Sun were in their top 10 most played live songs, and Bulls on Parade, Sleep Now in the Fire, and Spoonman made their top 20.

So yes, they were new bands who wanted to play new music, but they certainly weren't afraid of playing the songs that made them who they were, either.

God Audioslave was so underrated. Less we forget.

They were one of the top bands at that time so I wouldn’t say underrated at all.

I saw them when they played in Sacramento at the memorial auditorium and I was right on the guardrail center stage. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

I mean underrated in retrospect. They don’t get much respect now a days. Man when Cochise came out. Fuuuuuuck what a banger.

Now for sure.

Cochise is great. Like a stone is legit my favorite song of all time. The solo in that song still brings tears to my eyes and gives me goosebumps.

Im doubly sad now. No wait, triply sad. Sad that Chester is gone. Sad this Scientologist rape apologist has been tapped to replace him. And even sadder to be reminded that Chris is gone too.

AIC's main songwriter Jerry Cantrell is still alive that's a big reason why they could/should carry on.

My hot take is that Duvall Alice is as good as Staley Alice (albeit, different). I think had the same songs come out in the 90's, they'd be as iconic.

I've seen AiC with Duvall three times. He's fantastic! Not Layne, but a great replacement. I wish he were allowed to shine MORE on their new albums. I agree that if he were the original singer, they'd be just as iconic.

Duvall absolutely kills it. He channels the energy and emotion that Layne had. Sounds similar without being karaoke because he makes it his own. Just a massive talent in his own right. AiC is one of the few bands that deserve to keep their name even after losing Layne and Mike.

Audioslave played all the rage and soundgarden stuff once they released their second album.

Radiohead and the smile come to mind that fits the situation where most of the band is working w another creative talent to make music under.

Killswitch Engage switched singers, then switched back to the original years later and was pretty excellent through it all.

yeah this isn't one. Can't go from male to female voice & pretend
