Entitled people. A considerable number of people don't see celebrities as people but as vessels only meant to entertain us.

Where on earth was the security at the convention? The idiots should have been chucked out and banned for life from future events as a warning to others.

7

u/DialysisKing 16d ago

They likely were. I've never been to THE "Comic-Con" but smaller Galaxycon ones, they're really loud and security just kind of patrol the area, they're not directly stationed beside any booth. Best case scenario, the celebrities "helper" they usually have contacts the security to be hunted down based on their description.

Yup, its 100% these guys. Conservative, incel dudes.

Some how they literally think the character is the actor.

114

u/Chewcocca 17d ago

It's a surprisingly huge part of the right wing schtick these days.

Alex Jones constantly refers to fictional movie plots as proof that conspiracies are real. He claims that movie studios are forced by God to reveal their secret plans so they disguise it as fiction.

Yeah, not making any of this up. These are his stated views, from his own mouth.

These people are detached from reality as a core function of their worldview. It's a defense mechanism. If they acknowledged reality at all, their ideas would self destruct, so they will do anything to avoid it.

I find it weird that more actors don't opt out of this part. Seen to many fans saying hurtful shit like the actors are robots, not human or something.

You can make a lot selling autographs or taking photos or doing voice recordings for fans, but at a certain level of success depending on what you do- you have to have security or a handler at minimum to talk to people before they approach you

Probably the same kind of people who cosplay as Deadpool and think they can do whatever the fuck they want. Those kind of people cross boundaries and think it’s ok because they think it’s within the characters “personally.” They’re entitled.

The same people who treated the actor who played Joffrey on Game of Thrones so poorly in real life. Dumb people who have trouble separating reality from fiction.

58

u/McMikey99 16d ago

I've always heard that the kid who played Joffrey was 100% opposite of his character, and a totally nice dude irl. Same with the guy who played Ramsey.

20

u/BustinArant 16d ago

Draco Malfoy, too.

He had to be mean to apes in the first of the latest Planet of the Apes movies lol

I don’t know where this idea came from, Jack Gleeson has repeatedly said he‘s had nothing but positive experiences from fans.

Maybe you’re thinking of Ahmed Best? Best said he put a lot of himself into Jar Jar Binks, so when the character drew so much hostility from audiences, it sometimes extended toward himself or he otherwise interpreted it personally. The character of Jar Jar Binks was so disliked that Best considered suicide.

3

u/Aisenth 16d ago

The same guys who get off on making women afraid and uncomfortable. Tbh the assholes who did it probably will save this to their spank bank as a resounding success. Same reason dudes send unsolicited dick pics when they want to get off on the woman being horrified/disgusted — different points on the same shitty spectrum.

The real question is where tf was her handler/staff buddy? Don't most cons assign celebs someone to ensure the talent isn't harassed?? Otherwise it makes it less likely anyone famous will want to attend your con in the future (although ComicCon may be so big that they figure everyone will have to attend for marketing reasons.

I've never been to a con like that, don't they have security? Sadly creeps are everywhere

39

u/Unlucky_Most_8757 17d ago

That's what I was thinking. Not that it's okay in any situtation but she's an actual celebrity. I would think she would have someone standing by like a manager that could handle something like this if she asked.

73

u/Swampy_Bogbeard 17d ago

I'm surprised other fans would let something like that happen without saying something.

17

u/prettypoisoned Queen Maeve 16d ago

They do, and every guest usually has a handler sitting with them at their booth, but sadly things like this happen too often at cons anyway.

People who behave like this should be named, shamed and banned from attending conventions for life.

Honestly I doubt it's that deep (coincidental reference to rapey supe not intended). Some men just feel owed attention by women, regardless of anything else.

That kind of behaviour has been making a comeback lately.

Did I miss it ? What they do ? I watched the whole video and sounded like she was trying to avoid being specific

I was assuming someone came up to her and asked her to shoot milk in their mouth or something

90

u/phil_davis 17d ago

It sounded to me like some douche came in costume as Homelander and begged her to let him suck on her boobs or pretend to shoot her breast milk in his mouth or something. Honestly if I was an actress I wouldn't be caught dead at a place like Comic Con for this reason. Shit, I'm a fan and I still wouldn't really wanna go.

41

u/PrinceofSneks Andre Anderson 16d ago edited 16d ago

It's a significant part of how they promote their work and themselves, and since most actors don't make that much money, it can often be a good portion of their income.

Conventions usually have "handlers" for celebrities (for most types: if they're an invited guest, they'll have them) and this is the sort of shit the handler should shut down.

892

u/Candid-Ask77 17d ago

Someone asked her to breastfeed them/let them suck on her breasts

825

u/PhotographyRaptor10 17d ago

I figured this was the case when she said the person was “in character” so dressed and acting like homelander. There’s no way in hell this person thought she would actually do that for him, so this was just an attempt to publicly humiliate her and get a good laugh at her expense. Sounds just like a homelander fan

227

u/Itisnotmyname 16d ago

Is horrible. Is like when guys try to humillate me (as a player, not character) playing rolgames because "in these universe/era woman are menospreciated". Maybe yes, and you can insult my character, but if you insult me or the the full point of the game is insult my character (and not the story, monsters, adventure etc), we'll have a problem

PS: I can't stop thinking that, in the show, HL never demand it. She offered so. So is not really "in character"

145

u/The_Autarch 16d ago

menospreciated

That's some high-quality Spanglish right there. I looked it up and menospreciar means "to disparage" for anyone else who was curious.

Mfs are really still doing shit like this? Like movies and TV shows have been a thing for a really long time now,and people still can't seem to realize that these people are actors🤦🏾.

Doing weird stuff like that just cause of a character she played is so stupid. This is why we can't have nice things cause people can't differentiate between reality and fiction she's not firecracker, obviously 🤦🏾

537

u/XanXic 17d ago edited 17d ago

Idk what's wrong with people. It's like when the actor that played Rictus in Furiosa/Mad Max had to tweet like "You guys I played a CHARACTER stop calling me a pedophile." Like it's a special kind of dumb to get so mad at a character you go look them up and tweet at them like they actually are the real character.

I also remember Lena Hedley saying she had people spit at her at the height of Circe's awfulness on Game of Thrones. Like get a grip, you should be telling her what a great job she did that her pretending was so good it gave you such a rise.

Like people be all "that's terrible he was harassed, what were they thinking back then" whenever Jake Lloyd (Episode 1 Anakin) comes up like it doesn't still happen today.

193

u/NotTaken-username 17d ago

Anna Gunn also recieved death threats because of playing Skyler White. It’s just disappointing people can’t separate a character from the actor

83

u/arcieride 16d ago

And skylar isn't even a character worth of getting death treats

40

u/Halio344 16d ago

Definitely not, she was in the right compared to Walt for most of the show. The only time she wasn't was in the pilot where she was a bit bitchy and distant, but Walt wasn't the best husband ever by any means.

29

u/Oldschool660 16d ago

People really can't get past the manipulation the show does of getting you to root for Walt. When you take the blinders off; Skylar is right in like 99% of situations. She is the voice of reason for Walt, but since he is annoyed by that, she is shown as an antagonist of sorts. Skylar by all means is the most normal and relatable person in the entire story. If we saw it from her POV; we would side with her 100%. Skylar is a victim of a lying manipulative sociopath that essentially held her as an emotional hostage for his own ego. Yet Skylar is the bad guy. Ok.

"Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family" rings so true

Oddly, her character still gets the most vitriolic reactions from the fans of a show whose lead literally poisoned a child.

It's like people know evil male characters are evil but their villainy has a halo of morbid admiration, but god forbid if a woman character was a little hypocrite for some episodes then she's a b!tch who needs to be defined only by her worst traits.

4

u/neogreenlantern 16d ago

I watched BB after the series ended going in knowing everyone hated Skyler.

I didn't get it. She wasn't perfect but her reaction to Walters spiral wasn't warranted. I felt bad for her and Walter Jr.

5

u/exonwarrior 16d ago

You and me both. I had been inundated with memes about how terrible Skyler is before watching the show, and then spent the entire show wondering "is this next episode the one where she's finally a total bitch, since everyone hates her so much?".

Nope. People just hate women.

There are some ignorant mfers at conventions

People with no social skills who have embraced that title and become insufferable and toxic

Everyone is below them so they're not bound by boundaries or social norms

66

u/Brookenium 17d ago edited 17d ago

The takeaway people need to be taking from this is that if you see this shit, or hear other guys talking about shit like this. SAY SOMETHING. These douches have friends who awkwardly laugh, roll their eyes, and go "yeah he's kinda weird but w/e". We need guys to call this shit out and tell these kinds of people this shit isn't okay. And if you see this actually happening, call them out and shame them. Ultimately they want positive attention from other guys as a result of their actions, you need to give them the opposite, not ignore it.

16

u/Dr_Disaster 16d ago

From being in a lot of geek circles, this is a major problem. There's a lot of assholes out there that get a pass from their peers because they're "passionate" or just "think differently". Nope. An asshole is an asshole, and they need to get checked. Otherwise their egos just grow and become insanely toxic. So much of what we see in fandoms these days are narcissist assholes that are allowed to not only operate, but given a platform and a megaphone. We need to normalize bullying these people again.

They even kind of addressed this behavior in the show when Starlight was signing autographs at a meet & greet and a little asks for a selfie and some jerk yells "Starlight, show us your t!ts!" Completely inappropriate demeaning behavior compounded by Annie's discomfort that they said it in front of the child.

It's badly run if they don't have people ready to respond if actors/celebs are getting harassed. Because that means they don't have an ecosystem to protect anyone if the literal "special people" don't have a system.

It's ruined shitposting for me knowing there's a good chance it's normalising people saying weird creepy shit irl

27

u/mykidisonhere 16d ago

You're right. Idiot people believe shitposting is real. I swear that's how people believe other people are driving adenochrome out of children.

That's fucking crazy talk. But someone read it online and they ran with it.

13

u/tonybenwhite 16d ago edited 16d ago

I’m kind of curious, in your mind what makes shitposting… unreal? Fake? The opposite of real? It has just as much the chance to reach its target as a random fan saying it to her face, moreso maybe for the ease of access and virality aspect of memes.

Really, what excuses that form of vitriolic content, compared to saying it directly to someone who is equally as likely never see each other again (i.e. anonymity)?

I understand the concept that online has an extra buffer of the ability to shut your device off or navigate away from the “shitposting”; that in real life, you can’t just log off… but when it’s everywhere online, when you’re famous and the target of a LOT of shitposting, and there’s no real escape, isn’t it kinda unfair that they have to sacrifice the commodity of internet or reddit just to avoid shitposting?

I’m genuinely curious, I’m sincerely not trying to sling around inflammatory rhetoric just for the sake of it. But to me, it sounds like people are forgetting that virtual life is almost as integrated as social life in this Information Age. Or else, people are conveniently disregarding the impact that written word can have as well as spoken word, just for the sake of continuing the kind of laugh that Valorie is decrying here.

EDIT: I realize this will be a hot take on Reddit of all places, but I feel like I’m missing something, so thought I’d risk it and ask.

31

u/eugoogilizer 17d ago

I’ve never been to these conventions, but for those that have, how is security at these things? I get letting an inappropriate request slide if it was asked once, then immediately apologized for and dropped, but shit like this is absolutely inexcusable. If you are that much of a POS to not stop harassing someone after they made it clear they weren’t comfortable with you and your request, you honestly should be kicked out immediately and banned from that convention permanently.

Look we all get she played Firecracker and Firecracker was crazy and did alot of questionable stuff. But Curry is just an actress and a human being. Just because she played a character, doesn’t mean she’s anything like that character IRL. It’s sad people are this dense and idiotic and honestly those people should probably be banned from ANY convention or event like this if this is how they are gonna act 😡

23

u/Taraxian 17d ago

Every con nowadays is supposed to have a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment (especially of a big name guest by random fans, although ideally that shouldn't matter) and a mechanism for enforcing it

That said, I've never been to a con that wasn't wildly understaffed for the kind of crowds they're supposed to handle and that wasn't basically held together by duct tape and a prayer, so while it absolutely is on them to stop this behavior a lot sooner than they did I'm not surprised there wasn't anyone around to officially intervene

11

u/NeitherWait5587 17d ago

I’ve only been to NYCC and that’s obviously an incredibly well run venue but it sets a standard for female respect. There are signs EVERYWHERE that say to respect the bodies of female cosplayers and the occasional creeps are very quickly piled on by other fans. If you want the women to keep coming to these things and feel safe doing so in sexy cosplay, THIS is the way to handle the occasional creep. The other fans there need to rally and shame until the creep goes back to silence. Think WHATEVER you want. Be creepy in SECRET. But respect boundaries with your words and actions.

161

u/MrXero 17d ago

There’s no saving the human race. How do you watch the Boys and not understand who you might want to emulate and who you most certainly do NOT want to emulate in real life?

To be clear almost every character is heavily flawed, but some have a few great qualities; while others are practically devoid of anything respectable.

u/NoLeadership2281 16d ago

24

u/yesmilady 17d ago

After reading many fans whining on this sub about how the show should expose her breasts for the audience like it was something they were owed, I'm not surprised at all.

16

u/NeitherWait5587 17d ago

This shouldn’t have happened once. But that it happened repeatedly is what upsets me. In New York, the other fans would have fucking RUINED that dude’s day.

110

u/Glitch7779 Homelander 17d ago

I honestly thought this was a “funny” post from her and at some point someone else would jump in the video or smt.

Instead this is real.

Some people are just that stupid and gross irl

23

u/sth128 17d ago

Yeah was hoping there was a punch line but instead it's just shit fans harassing an actress.

As an aside, she looks absolutely lovely in real life.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? How fucked in the head do you have to be to demand a person to do those things?

33

u/SinisterMeatball 17d ago

She didn't say what the demand was but I'm going to assume someone dressed as Homelander wanted to breastfeed for a photo?

40

u/OptimizedEarl 17d ago

The people doing this stuff aren’t gonna hear this.

23

u/Kobayashi_Maru186 I'm the real hero 17d ago

And if they do hear it, by some chance, they won’t care. SMH. 😞

She played an even further unhinged character in Following. What kind of idiot would demand her to do stuff that her CHARACTERS do? I can’t believe this.

11

u/Consistent-Animal728 16d ago

I was at the comic con in Northern Ireland and she was very nice to me and since I was a bit nervous about getting a photo and she told me there's a chance season 5 will be out in 2026

21

u/burgerdistraction 17d ago

A lot of the boys fans, specifically male fans, are incels who idolize homelander. Not surprised here, feel bad for the actress though having to deal with those sheltered degenerates in person. Probably smelled like BO too.

10

u/bidooffactory 17d ago

Good for her speaking up and standing up for herself. There's unfortunately always going to be that group of people out there but the day we stop saying no and allow them to continue is the day they win.

The viewers of this show are more degenerate than the characters jesus christ, asking an actress to whip out her tits at a con because she played a character who did that in a tv show? Fucking hell

16

u/[deleted] 17d ago

The Boys makes me realize a lot of grown ass people have zero media literacy and do not possess critical thinking skills. Like either their high schools did not teach it in history, English, or maths or they D’d their way through school.

5

u/cynisright 16d ago

I’m not sure her statement is about that. This is about human decency and lack of home training.

Man, I haven’t watched the show, but this poor woman hitting me in the feels, you can tell she is holding it together hard…. People can be so shitty, do better

9

u/HaruLecter 16d ago

It’s funny how Firecracker’s fanbase is showed like this and those motherfuckers act like this irl. Pretty ironic. I am thirsty bisexual woman and I would never do anything like this. 💀 Not even talking about the fact that I remember her more as Kara than Firecracker so she makes me think about sad androids anyway.

8

u/AJC0292 16d ago

People who cant seperate reality from fiction are beyond dumb. Genuinely stupid.

Like cant think and breath at the same time kind of stupid.

See it in so many fanbases where the obsession over characters or stories goes beyond what is reasonable and their behavior is the worst for it.

8

u/Antonater 16d ago

Wow, these comments are much more supportive than those on Instagram. Some people there were blaming her for this bullshit. There was another woman who was saying that she created the character, so she is responsible for how people behave around her and that she is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Absolute madness

7

u/Fickle_Goose_4451 16d ago

Where is security at this event? A dude dressed as homelander demanding she breastfeed him should maybe get halfway through his sentence before two huge dudes have hands on his shoulders and are walking him out.

8

u/boringbobby 16d ago

Some people (especially hardcore fans) think the actor IS the character. They can’t tell the difference. Yes, some people are really this fucking dumb in real life.

8

u/FamGaming17 16d ago

At that point they aren't fans, they're just a bunch of creepy weirdos. Do they not know how to separate actors and reality? Hopefully these people got arrested or something. Also, she should get some bodyguards for these types of people.

68

u/_aloadofbarnacles_ 17d ago

Not that she was the first to do it, but I think Chappell Roan has recently paved the way for other celebrities to come out and voice their boundaries with fans. I hope more of them continue to speak out because the way people treat complete strangers just because they’re famous is disgusting.

22

u/chrisdurand 17d ago

Honestly, her reaction is very gracious - I'd have made sure the dingbat who pulled that stunt was booted out of the con entirely.

There's no place for this crap, especially because Valorie Curry, by all accounts, seems like an absolute angel of a human.

9

u/G0merPyle 17d ago

What the hell, that's disgusting. I hope those assholes got kicked out, they should be ashamed of themselves

7

u/azeottaff 16d ago

Don't care who you are, what you have, or any other excuse, that shit is not okay. full stop.

Everyone involved should receive a lifetime ban from future comic con events.

These are the kind of The Boys fans who think Homelander is cool and relatable with no understanding of the show.

6

u/Jaded_Skills 16d ago

So correct me if I’m wrong but is this the chick that plays firecracker and some jackasses we’re asking her to squirt milk?

If this is what I’m thinking without any context “ Oh great smiter, please smite us now because some of us are tired of humanity”

Okay seriously guys?

Someone cosplaying Homelander asked to breastfeed. Do you really need that spelled out?

7

u/scs5star 17d ago

How do people see this happening and not intervene....

4

u/aerosolsp 16d ago

Are people really asking her to pop her tits out and squirt milk?

Or is there some other extreme things I'm not remembering that Firecracker did?

What the fuck?

6

u/Square_Resolve_925 16d ago

I feel for her. You can tell she's been crying before filming this, and I'm sure making the decision to say this and post it would be incredibly hard, from backlash bc people are insane.

I dont know why it's so hard for people to just act... Normal?

I'm saddened she had to even make this and post this. And I know she'll get more hate from demonic fans who don't realize they are the "Todd's"

6

u/ye_olde_wojak 16d ago

It's the breast milk thing isn't it?

5

u/otterpockets75 16d ago

I’m surprised no one mentioned that fans have to pay money to get photos with these actors. There perverts probably thought they were entitled to whatever they wanted because they forked over cash.

4

u/Character-Group9182 16d ago

Wow, people are delusional I feel sorry for her

4

u/blinkKyle182 16d ago

Sad that she even needed to say this in the first place 🤦‍♂️

4

u/agent-assbutt Cunt 16d ago

God it has to be exhausting to be a conventionally attractive woman on a show like this. Sadly this does not surprise me at all. So gross and sad that losers still pull shit like this.

4

u/DarkEvilHobo 16d ago

I stopped watching The Boys when it started becoming over the top for the sake of shock value and just to be over the top.

I don’t know what she’s referring to specifically but I have little doubt that she encountered some jackasses who don’t know the difference between reality and fantasy.

I’m sorry she had to go through that. No one should be made to feel uncomfortable.

4

4

u/AcademicAnxiety5109 16d ago

I’m guessing they wanted to do something with her breasts which is just messed up.

4

u/LoveMeSomeSand 16d ago

Disgusting. Where is security?

And is there a “no fly” list for conventions? These guys should be on it.

4

u/goliathfasa 16d ago

Omfg. She’s Sara Detroit from Detroit Become Human. How did I never realize that.

5

u/james_randolph 16d ago

I’ve never been to a convention or anything like that but I’d have to think and hope security is snatching these type of people and kicking them out…placing them on banned lists and shit like with airlines.

3

u/Superloopertive 16d ago

Unfortunately, she's probably just painted a target on her back for the incel, right-wing Boys fans. It's best not to engage with trolls. They thrive on being seen and causing annoyance.

5

u/JynsRealityIsBroken 16d ago

It's like the people who taled mad shit to Cercei at cons and get angry at her. Or the people who literally ruined young Anakin's life by yelling at him for acting a script he didn't write. This kind of thing is common with the far right nerds.

Incels fucking suck and those are the people who are the most vocal on the Internet about shows and media tbh. They "care" the most. They make it their entire life.

They're probably the people most likely to drop N bombs on call of duty and lose their minds in League.

I doubt this will ever go away. Actors unfortunately need to just understand this is part of the culture, for now and probably for a lot longer (though we should continually push to be better). It's probably more of a symptom of these people having a bad social life echoed by other incels and shitty family dynamics.

I don't know how famous people do it. The threat of crazy stalkers is real.

4

u/mr-pib1984 16d ago

I think the organisers/venue need to be having a chat with security regarding this incident & the fact the bloke apparently did this a number of times.

I really don't see how this keeps happening. I feel like the new wave of up and coming celebrities have the worst management going, this should have been resolved and dealt with before she even arrived anywhere, she shouldn't have to make this video. Terrible carry on.

4

u/SupermanFanboy 16d ago

It's fucking tragic. People are STILL learning what boundaries mean

5

u/IcyCorgi9 16d ago

People who think it's ok to be assholes because they're "in costume" and "playing a character" are the worst kind of scum imaginable.

4

u/isst_arsch 16d ago

Please don't fucking tell me some idiot walked up to her and asked for her to squirt breast milk at them...
